A Vintage Side Tiara exudes elegance

September 22nd, 2011 by admin

Well made tiaras bring a graceful elegance and a real jaw-dropping look to complete your outfit on your wedding day.

A vintage side tiara is a great opportunity to bring some shine to your outfit. Often studded with diamonds or other minerals, a tiara can either balance an extravagant dress or create a true wow-factor for a simpler dress.

Designs vary widely for tiaras; from simple art-deco styles and bow headbands to double headbands and exuberant pearl deco. So finding a design that suits your dress and personality is sure to be found.

Vintage side tiaras are also suitable for bridesmaids and flower girls on your wedding day. These can be matching or different styles, depending on whether you want your bridesmaids to create some individuality for each outfit.

The Something Blue Garter

September 22nd, 2011 by admin

Something old, something new

Something borrowed, something blue…

Tradition is a huge part of making your wedding day so special. All the little details are what make it (fingers crossed!), the best day of your life. And there’s nothing more steeped in tradition than the famous blue garter. Below are three stunning vintage blue garters from A Alicia Weddings:

Pale blue big bow garter: Handmade from the finest vintage ribbon, this charming garter comes in Carolina blue. Including an elegant oversized bow, seamlessly fitted, this garter is bountiful in style, tradition and grace.

Button garter in pale blue vintage ribbon: A truly classic design, this pale blue garter is a wonderful piece and fantastically made with delightful intricate detailing. A thin vintage ivory ribbon runs through the garter and is finished with a delicate vintage mother of pearl, silver edged button.

Small locket vintage navy ribbon garter: A darker piece, this navy blue ruffled garter contains an adorable, beautifully-detailed gold locket (in which you can place a picture of your loved one).

Congratulations to Jess Thompson!

June 23rd, 2011 by admin

Congratulation to a gorgeous friend of mine, Jess Thompson who’s vintage inspired wedding took place last Saturday, 18th June in Sedbergh in the Lakes.

I was so honoured to be asked to do her hair and makeup, as well as her mums, and it was so lovely to be involved in her wedding morning! Jess went for a beautiful vintage, art deco inspired Jenny Packham dress which also had quite a grecian feel, which we decided would be the inspiration for her hair and makeup. She went for a loosely-done up style which was subtly pinned to one side with a grecian style plait across the back of her head. then for the evening, we took her hair down, leaving only the plait, for a loose and fun evening style – a great way to change your look for your evening reception! (and the advantage of having a friend there all day to do hair and makeup!) She chose a stunning lace side headband from Vintage Styler too, along with all time best selling and absolutely gorgeous, aphrodite garter by Florrie Mitton.

For her makeup, she went for gold tones, with (my favourite!) MAC wonder woman glitter in bronze over her eyes. Foundation was kept sheer and flawless for a truly bronzed grecian goddess look!

All in all a wonderful weekend, and an amazing chance for a well overdue catch up with every one of my best friends! I do love weddings…..

Bridal trends for 2011

April 19th, 2011 by admin

I’m loving this years trend for romantic style hair do’s. With a strong vintage influence still running through this year, soft up-do’s are really popular, especially with a subtle assymetric feel with very loose, smooth curls pushed to one side, often to compliment a one shoulder dress or one which is ruched to one side. Grecian styles still seem to be having a huge influence for both brides and bridesmaids, with a big come back for combs rather than side tiaras. I love that combs can be worn in any way you like, either pushed into the back of a style, or placed further forward to give the impression of a side band. I’ve found some gorgeous combs which have just come back in stock on my site, www.vintagestyler.co.uk. They really look fabulous in any hair colour, especially with a vintage inspired up-do.

I also want to say a big congratulations to Kerry Ferguson, who had her wedding at the Hilton Double tree on the 2nd April. Whilst Kerry went for quite a traditional bridal hair style, with a softer and more modern take, her bridesmaids were loving the side do too which looked fantastic with their grecian style dresses.

Some pics of our own wedding last year…

February 10th, 2011 by admin

People always ask me whether I did my own hair and makeup for my wedding, and yes, I did my own makeup but couldn’t tackle the hair because of the nerves! My hairdresser from Soul Hair in Chester came along to put it up into a low ponytail on the day. Here are some pics of our day, thank you to our wonderful Liverpool wedding photographer Andrew John for the amazing pictures!

Thought I would share some makeup pictures I’ve had through from one of my brides back in June this year. She had such a gorgeous sunny day at the Sandhole Oakbarn – I wanted to stay and join them for the day! Bec looked gorgeous, as did all of her bridesmaids. Enjoy!
